Children delight in Professor Iris who is a bird with a keen sense of fashion and an oversized bow tie. In his science classroom, he teaches his students, a plant, a piano, and a skeleton. His subject is the science behind everyday things from balloons to teeth to shapes, or bees!
Professor Iris has a knack for explaining things so that young children will understand and each episode includes a song to reinforce the theme. Each episode begins with Professor Iris arriving in his classroom greeted by his students. The theme of the episode can usually be found in his oversized bowtie.
Designed for preschoolers and created by award-winning cartoonist and animator Henri Desclez, who brought in puppeteers from the show Fraggle Rock. The set and the puppetry are great quality.
All three of my boys love watching television. However, I try to limit their television time unless it is something education. So, when hearing about the Iris: The Happy Professor Volume 3 DVD I knew it was something that they should watch. My oldest two sons go to daycare in the daytime so baby Bentley was the first to watch the DVD. The DVD is educational and it comes with this catchy song which was able to hold his attention while I did some basic work on the computer. When the older boys came home I allowed them to watch the DVD after dinner and they seemed to like it as well. They loved the song as well and every time it played they started singing along and dancing.
In this volume they were able to learn more about seasons, fruits & vegetables, nature, hot & cold, the earth and the sky and minerals. I personally, liked the lessons too because some things such as minerals and nature we have not covered to much in my own personal teachings with them.
Overall, I would recommend Iris: The Happy Professor Volume 3 to other parents with young children who are learning. The DVD is only 87 minutes long which I think is a good length to keep them engaged with watching educational things without losing their attention.
