Disclosure of Material Connection: Some of the links in the post above are "affiliate links." This means if you click on the link and purchase the item, I will receive an affiliate commission. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will add value to my readers. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255: "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising."
Many bloggers wonder how they can make an income off their blog. If you read my blog frequently, you have probably seen sponsored post here and there. Usually, my Sponsored posts come from Link Vehicle or Sverve. However, before writing a sponsored post I always evaluate whether or not it is something that I should accept.
Consider the Value of the Link
I have turned down numerous sponsored post opportunities because they did not seem like they were a good fit for my readers. Some were entirely irrelevant while others were trying to promote items that appeared to be frauds or low quality. I do have three kids to take care of but I would not want to promote an items or service that would cause others to waste money just so I could make a few bucks.
When I accept sponsored posts they are from companies or products that I would use or already do use myself. I sometimes tie in affiliate links but those are for things that I have used or purchased on Amazon. Other times I may link to articles that provide more information on what I am discussing in my article. The bottom line is your readers trust you so it is important that you are providing them with accurate information and not setting them up for failure.
Make the Post Personal
Whenever you accept and opportunity to do a sponsored post you should be able to make it a personal post too. This way the sponsor is still receiving a decent amount of exposure while you are keeping your readers eyes by not providing them with an ad in the form of an article. Some sponsors may require creativity but it is definitely worth the effort so your blog does not suffer.
Those are my beginner tips for someone who is just considering doing sponsored posts. If you have, any more thoughts feel free to share them in the comments section below.
