Trick or treating is the main event of any child’s Halloween. Most adults still enjoy going trick or treating with their children. After you have collected bags full of candy, you will need something to do with the leftover pieces that persist well into November. Here is a list of the top five things to do with leftover Halloween candy.
Use the Pieces in Recipes
Utilizing the candy inside of sweet treats in the kitchen is one of the best ways to use up candy in an efficient manner. With chocolate, shave off the chocolate and use it inside of cakes or as garnishment for cakes and cupcakes. Throw sweet candies inside of Rice Krispy treats to make them unique and a little sweeter than they already are. You can even make milkshakes that feature broken off pieces of candies such as Snickers, Reece’s Pieces, and Butterfingers.
Donate the Candy
After you are tired of having candy after a few days, there are soldiers abroad who would love to have sweet treats from the United States. Donate your candy to Operation Shoe box and other companies that donate to the soldiers who are away from home. Put together a care package with plenty of candy and other goodies that is sure to be enjoyed.
Make Popcorn or Trail Mix
If you enjoy making special treats of your own, you can make harvest popcorn with popcorn a few chocolate candies and some candy corn. This will be a great candy treat to share during Thanksgiving after the meal is over. Create trail mix with nuts, small candy, and dried fruit and take this along to school, or leave them in the cupboard as a good snack to eat throughout the day.
Use as Tools for Math
Candy as a learning tool is one of the best choices that you can make with candy. Use hard pieces such as jolly ranchers or other hard candies in order to help learn to add, subtract, divide, and multiply.
For the Adults: Use it Inside of Your Mixed Drinks
If you enjoy mixing adult beverages, use candy inside of your drinks to make the treat even sweeter! Melt down jolly ranchers in order to use inside of mixed fruity drinks. Chocolate inside of vodka makes for a great grown up treat. If there is left over candy that match any of the vodka flavors you enjoy, use the leftover candy in your mixed drinks.
