Most everyone struggles with their self-confidence at one point or another during their lives. Lack of confidence can become so much a part of your personality that you may not know how to get out of it. There are steps you can take to increase your self-confidence and become a more confident individual.
Step One – Eating Right
When you eat a sensible diet, you tend to look your best, allowing your confidence to grow. If you put foods you love on a list with “Forbidden” written across the top, you’re going to crave them incessantly. Instead, eat a well-balanced diet and allow yourself a treat if you’re craving it.
Step Two – Making a Schedule
You might set your schedule to spend a certain amount of time out with friends, at home with family and on your own. You don’t have to schedule everything, but making time for the different elements of your life, including yourself, helps to build confidence.
Step Three – Taking a Break
Don’t expect to be perfect; setting such high expectations for yourself can be detrimental to your confidence. Everyone makes mistakes, but making decisions and learning from them will give you a boost of confidence in your skills.
Step Four – Learning to Say No
It can be harrowing to say no, but learn how to do it to build your confidence. Declining an invitation takes a measure of confidence in yourself; remember that saying no to going out with friends isn’t going to affect your life forever. There will be other chances.
Step Five – Being Present
When you’re spending time with friends or family, leave your phone alone and be present in the moment with them. Disconnecting for a while also has the added benefit of relieving the anxiety which derives from being constantly connected.
Step Six – Trying New Things
By pushing yourself to try something new, you’ll gain confidence in being able to do those things. Keep trying things until you find something you’re passionate about, and then try following that into a career, or at least an extensive hobby.
Step Seven – Dressing Well
If you look good, you’re going to feel good. In order to look good, you have to know what looks good on you, and what doesn’t. Understand which styles work for your body, and go from there.
Step Eight – Knowing Who Your Friends Are
Real friends try to lift you up, not tear you down. Life is too short for faux friends. Surround yourself with the real deal for a true confidence boost. Friends who do not have your best interests at heart are not your friends. Save yourself the trouble; real friends are worth having.
