This is something new that I want to give a try. For the next couple of months, I will be tackling some of the places in my home where junk seems to build up and clearing it out. I decided to start with a small place this week, which was my dresser.
My dresser is usually good appearance wise. However, this week it did get a bit messy because of back to school and me just leaving any and everything there. The top of my dresser is where the mess accumulates. I just throw stuff up there and it stays. Therefore, I started off organizing my dresser because I knew I had a bunch of junk on the top of it and the bottom was very messy too. (I won’t do the drawers this week as they are an entirely different type of mess I have to tackle.
The photos above illustrate the items that had accumulates on the top of my dresser as well as over the top of the mirror. I took everything off the dresser, wiped it down with Clorox wipes and cleaned the mirror with Windex.
That was the easy part. Taking stuff off is always easy. However, finding something to do with all of the crap is an entirely different story.
Therefore, I created four different sections – trash, laundry, donate, and put back.
The hats that had been sitting there for months obviously needed to go in the laundry (a ton of dust had collected above the mirror). I put a couple of glasses inside of the donate bag because obviously if they had been sitting above my mirror for all of that time, I wasn’t going to wear them. A bunch of stuff went in the trash, such as the Gatorade bottles, a pair of old glasses that were on their last legs, and old media passes from Busch Garden events I had attended last year. The rest I put back in a more organized manner.
Now, both the top and the bottom of the dresser look so much neater (let’s just hope I can keep it that way lol). I also swapped out the candle that I was going to use for the Handmade Scented Candle with 100% Soy Wax – Family Members Candle.
This candle actually arrived recently and I couldn’t wait to test it out. I love soy wax and I love the words that are written on this candle. Besides, I just cleaned so why not allow a new scent to fill my room as well. Also, after the candle is used, since the mason jar is so cute I am going to use it as a match jar (thanks Staying Close to Home for sharing this idea).
This candle makes the perfect gift idea for family members. On the other hand, if you are a huge candle lover, like me, you can use it in your own home. I love that it is made by using essential oils because the fragrance is light and it smells amazing. The Mason jar is super pretty too so, it can fit in with virtually any type of decor.
How do you think I did at tackling my dresser mess?
