With the kids out of school for winter break (yes, I know it just started) and dealing with a neighbor who has to be insane, I have been having a ton of “I Can’t Even Moments”. When I refer to an “I Can’t Even Moment” as a parent, I’m talking about when you just can’t deal with the situation at the moment either because you are borderline depressed or angry… you just can’t even. Well, since I’m sure many of you are in the same predicament as me where school, is out until next year (minus the crazy neighbor), I decided to share some of my best tips for how I deal with my “I Can’t Even” moments.
Take Deep Breaths
Whenever one of these moments hit me, the first thing I have to do is take some deep breaths. You know sometimes you just need some fresh air and if you aren’t able to go for a walk at the very moment, “I Can’t Even” sets in, this is an excellent way to get that breath of fresh air that you need. After about ten deep breaths I can begin to process the situation.
For example, at our old place, one day my son somehow came home with a crayon in his pocket that I didn’t know about (I keep all coloring stuff out of sight and out of reach). Well, in the morning he had written his name all on the wall beside his bed. I couldn’t even begin to process how to react, especially without caffeine, so deep breathes it was.
I’m pretty sure that I have mentioned how coloring is very relaxing for myself and usually for the kids too. Well, when an “I Can’t Even” moment pops up (depending on the situation of course), I start coloring.
For example, remember how I mentioned how I gift teachers because of all of the chatter and commotion they have to deal with. After hours of it on end from three little people, especially when they are pestering each other, it is time to do something to get some quietness going on and everyone in a peaceful state. I pull out some coloring supplies with the quickness and get to it.
It is just so peaceful and takes my mind off of the moment.
Find a Game to Take Your Mind Off of It
Need for Speed No Limits is my newest addiction. Let an “I Can’t Even” moment take place. I will go out to the balcony (yes the kids are still in sight), have a smoke, and get to playing a game quick. I also like Evil Apples and most word games to help me unwind.

Catch Up on Your Favorite TV Show
As a work at home mom, I will be honest, sometimes my job gets me in an “I Can’t Even” mood. Now with the kids out of school I am working nights while they sleep, so if an “I Can’t Even” pops up, I take a break and go catch up on one of my shorter favorite tv shows.
This can also work during the day though. The boys will have the living room tv and I’ll just sit off in a corner and watch a show on my phone.

Take a Time Out
I give it about a week into the vacation before I find myself in a time out. However, I am well prepared now. AND, yes, I am talking about putting myself in time out (and not the kids). This means I go somewhere such as my bedroom for about 15 to 20 minutes. Oh, but don’t worry I still keep my eye on them and I have a new gadget that I have already set up and tested out.
Basically, for a time out, you go to a place in the house where the kids aren’t. However, if you have younger kids I suggest putting up a baby monitor or camera so you can still monitor AND communicate with them while in time out (so they don’t go crazy lol) and take a cool down period.
Anyways, let me tell you about my new gadget that I have ready for my next time out.
It’s freaking amazing, the best camera system I have ever tried.
Basically, with this camera you are able to hook it up to your internet connection so you can see what is going on while you are not in the area. It not only has night vision, which makes it great for those who have babies and it also has a motion sensor. You can even control how it moves from your phone too. So, if the kids do get up or move you can turn it to follow them around the room. Now how cool is that!
It took me about 15 minutes to get it set up, mostly this long because the app wanted to take forever to download to my phone. But, after that, it was good to go. HOWEVER, the only downside with this camera is it is delayed (or it could be my internet) by a couple of minutes so I don’t see things in real time. Nevertheless, this isn’t really a huge issue because when I’m in “time out” I’m never out of hearing range and obviously they are doing something that doesn’t have them in danger.
Overall, I am in love with this new camera though and if you decide you need to take some “time outs” when an “I Can’t Even” sneaks up on you, this one has some pretty cool features and it can be used for other things too!
