I love doing random acts of kindness and participating in various secret online exchanges throughout the year. However, when doing online exchanges such as “Secret Santa”, it can be hard to purchase the right gift. It can be hard enough shopping for relatives, but when shopping for someone who you may or may not know in the virtual world, things become even harder. Therefore, today I am sharing some tips for finding the perfect gift so you can be prepared for your next secret online exchange.

Use a Generator That Allows Secret Online Exchanges Participants to Create Wish Lists
If you use a generator to match participants together, consider going with one such as Elfster or Draw Names, which allows participants to create wish lists of items that they would like to ensure that you are purchasing them a gift that they will love.
Last year, I was able to try out both of those generators and while they both have their pros or cons, I do really love the way that Elfster has everything set up.
Gift a Personalized Gift
If you happen to be matched to someone who you know online, but not in person, consider giving him or her a personalized gift. For example, Collage.com has some Gallery Wrap Canvass that are 16 x 20 that are fine-grained and museum quality. They also come with scratch resistant coating and are shipped ready to hang.
For Christmas, I got my aunt one of some family photos that we had done and she loved it. However, to do one for your secret exchanges go to their social media accounts and surprise them with some of their best photos. They are sure to love it and appreciate that you took the time to put some thought into your purchase.
Gift a Gift Card
When you’re matched to someone that you literally know nothing about, they don’t have a wish list, and you cannot find out anything about them a gift card is a safe route to take. Usually, you cannot go wrong if you go with an Amazon, Walmart, or Target gift card. I would recommend staying away from restaurant gift cards because you never know that may be a restaurant that they absolutely hate.
Do you participate in secret exchanges online? If so, how do you find the perfect gift for your matches?
