It really doesn’t matter the season, you want a comfortable home. However, in the fall, there is a certain coziness one would expect. I know for myself, I’m thinking of warm colors and extra comfortable linens. You don’t have to spend a fortune on making your home cozy for the fall either as you may have most of the items right in your home!
Give Your Bed Some Volume
It’s time to pump up your bedroom by adding volume to your bed. Just changing the comforter set alone can help out with that. In the summer, you may go for brighter colors such as red’s and blues. However, in the fall think of white, fluffy bedding with a coverlet at the bottom or brown plush pillows on top. This will help you transition well into the winter months by adding warmth to your bed.
Lower the Lights
The fall is a cozier atmosphere, so bright lights are out! Change up your lighting throughout the house by using a low watt light bulb in a few rooms. Start out with a 40 watt to see how that changes the ambiance of your home.
Remember, there are also colored bulbs you can use as well. Add a sheer cloth over lamps to change the color (be sure it’s not touching the bulb).
Curtains can also change any room of your home into a cozy den. Switch the sheer draperies out for thick, earth tone curtains.
Another inspiring fall idea is to add curtains across the walls, like a backdrop. Not only will it make your home look cozy, but it will keep some of the air drafts out.
Change Your Photo Frames
If you have photos up around your home, switch them out with brown, orange, and green frames. During the fall, there should be plenty of decorative fall themed frames as well.
Add a Decorative Throw
Another cozy idea to add warmth around your home is to add decorative throws in your living room and den. You can lay these over the ends of the couch. Also, consider purchasing a blanket vessel to hold a few in one room and keep out excess clutter.
Clean Out the Fireplace and Stack up the Wood
If you’re lucky enough to have a fireplace, it’s time to clean it out and prepare for the cold nights by the fire. Be sure to stock up some firewood as well to prepare.
Create Space for a Nook
A nifty idea I saw on my favorite site (Pinterest) was creating a reading nook. Nooks are cute ideas to relax in while reading your favorite book. Of course, my kids would dive on to a comfortable bean bag. Decorate your nook with a small bookshelf, table, and floor lamp to make it cozy.
Add Pillows Throughout the Home
Something else I found as an easy way to change the look of your home is to add pillows everywhere! You can fluff up your bed, couch, and toss pillows on the floor for the kids to wallow around on. Get pillows with stripes and plaid prints to add a different vibe.
A great way to add some of these finishing touches to your home is to check out Hallmark’s Home Product Line. Yea, I was surprised myself to find out they had more than just cards and small gift ideas! Hallmark has some of these comfortable, fabulous home décor items online and in stores. You’ll find unique ideas to add to your living space such as kitchen tea towels, oven mitts, decorative pillows, picture frames, office and desk items, blankets, and more.
Hallmark believes in changing your home to a comfortable environment, and I love some of the items on their site. I was fortunate enough to review these fabulous pillows from their new Home product line.
