Being a mom means you must prepare for everything, right? Even down to when it comes to planning for a date night. Therefore, today I decided to share my guide for preparing for date night as I know, as a mom of three, it can sometimes seem like more trouble than it’s worth to try to prepare yourself go out for a date that doesn’t include taking the children along.
Step 1 – Give Yourself At least Two Hours to Get Dressed
On Friday, I was notified around 6pm that I was going to be going on a date to see the new movie The Bye Bye Man. I was super hype because I was having a kind of bad day and I honestly needed some time out of the house from all the snow days causing school, to be out and trying to maintain working while the kids were home all day.
The movie was starting at 11, which meant we would have to leave around 10:30 and the kids wouldn’t be settled and watching tv until 8 or 8:30. This meant that I needed to start prepping myself around 8pm to be ready in time.
Seems like too much thinking for a date night, right?
Well, I factored in that I hadn’t shaved all week, I needed to shower, and I still hadn’t tidied up the house. Therefore, while getting ready I would also be doing miscellaneous things such as finishing with work, getting stuff ready for the sitter, and making sure that the kids were watching their bedtime movie and not pestering each other.
Overall, you’re a mom, two hours is needed, if not more. Kids are unpredictable so you must factor in extra time for the unseen.
Bonus Tip: Try to schedule your date for after the kids are in bed or are going to bed so you can get a good rate from your sitter. Essentially, you will just be paying them to sit and watch tv or surf the web while your kids sleep so they aren’t home alone.
Step 2 – Start on Time
Whatever time you plan to start getting ready be on time. At 8 I shaved my legs, laid out my outfit options, jewelry, and shoes. Then, I checked on the boys, checked in on the computer to make sure nothing needed my attention, and then hopped in the shower. Basically, I did things in little steps to ensure everything was being taken care of.
The important thing is to start prepping on time to be sure that you don’t put yourself behind schedule.
Step 3 – Save Putting on Your Outfit for Last
The last thing I do is put on my clothes twenty minutes before it is time to leave. This is because in between the kids will need snacks, possibly to be picked up, and who knows what else. By getting dressed at the last possible minute, you eliminate the likelihood of getting something on your outfit and then having to frantically try to put together something else cute to wear.
Mission accomplished now you’re ready for the final step.
Step 4 – Start Heading Out the Door Ten Minutes Before You Need to Leave
This is one of the most important steps for me. My youngest is clingy so he must go through a round of hugs, high fives, and “pinky’s” before I am cleared to head out. My middle son wonders where could I possibly be going without them (can you tell I don’t get date nights often lol). Then, I must make sure my oldest son knows to make sure everyone is on their best behavior for the sitter and makes it to bed on time.
Now that you’re out the door, time to let your hair down and enjoy your date.
The Bye Bye Man Movie Review
When seeing The Bye Bye Man I was able to go to my favorite movie theater in the area, “Cine Bistro”. I love this theater because they have a bowling alley, a bar, and they serve you adult drinks and food inside the theater. I know others love Paragon now that they are open and have reclining chairs, but I personally will take not having to walk with a bunch of stuff in my hands back to the theater over being able to lay down.
(Note: There will be no personal photos of the theater in this post because I unplugged before walking into the movie theater so I could enjoy myself).
Brief Overview of The Bye Bye Man
The Bye Bye Man is a PG 13 movie that is about 1 ½ hours long. You may have seen the previews on televisions where they are chanting, “Don’t Say It, Don’t Think It, Don’t Say It, Don’t Think It”, like me and that is what caught my interest and made me want to see it.
The plot is three college friends move into a house and learn about The Bye Bye Man and the story unfolds from there. The movie is characterized as a suspense/horror movie.
My Thoughts on The Bye Bye Man Movie
In my opinion, The Bye Bye Man is more of a suspense than it is a horror. It had some hilarious parts to it as well and one part where everyone in the audience went “Awe”. Overall, I did like the movie and would like to see a second part because based on the ending I am sure that this is not the end of The Bye Bye Man.
In conclusion, I would give it 5 stars.
Final Thoughts on Date Night as a Mom
I will admit date nights can be hard to do as a mom of three since my kids are so young, but they are well worth it and needed. This year I have committed to doing at least one thing for myself one weekend out of the month so I can relax and rejuvenate.
My bonus tip is whenever you do a date night do something the following day/weekend with the kids. For example, on Saturday I took the boys shopping for clothes and educational items and on Sunday we did breakfast at IHOP (you may have seen photos on my Instagram page).
How do you prepare for date nights as a mom? Did you go see The Bye Bye Man on Friday 13th? If so, what were your thoughts?
