As a mom, it’s so easy to lose yourself, especially when you have more than one child. In fact, I am guilty of losing myself and at the end of last year, I knew I had one major personal goal for myself – to be selfish at least once a month and do something that I love or try something new I might love.
Let’s face it, a happy mom is a happy family.
Now, since my boys are all school age I have more free time in the day, so this year I have already been having a blast by traveling more and trying new things (such as painting). I find it not only makes me a happier mom, but it keeps me from burning out with my business too.
Today, I am going to share with you four things that I have planned to do this year to make time for myself so I can continue finding myself. If you are also making this the year you are finding yourself, maybe you will want to try some of these things too.
#1 Pole Dancing Classes
Getting back into shape and losing a few pants sizes is something that I want to accomplish by the end of the year. I’m not happy with my current weight or pants size, so I am actively trying to fix it by doing different exercise challenges and making working out a part of my life.
The thing with challenges, workout DVDs, and apps though is they aren’t all that fun. It seems too much like a chore and after a while, I just quit doing it altogether because the workouts just seem to drag on and on.
Therefore, this year I plan to invest in pole dancing classes as they seem like a great way to get in shape and have fun doing it as well. I used to do Zumba a few years back and loved the workout I got from that. So, I figured I just as well give pole dancing classes a try since this year is supposed to be about trying new things.
The best part is there is a studio not too far from me so I won’t have to travel to far to get started. Currently, I’m trying to convince my best friend to do a private class with me so I can get a feel for the environment before making the commitment to a package deal.
I have done some kickboxing exercises before, but they were DVD-based workouts and pamphlets, so I didn’t stick with them. However, since I already have some equipment, now seems like a good time as ever to put it to good use. I found a deal on Groupon for a set of classes that are less than 15 minutes from my home. So, I have that bookmarked so I can purchase it as soon as I figure out how to work it into my schedule.
#3 Real Estate School
Don’t worry, I won’t be shutting my blog down or my writing business.
I want to be a “Jill of All Trades” and I also want to get a part time gig doing out of the home work so I can interact with adults more. Working online makes me into a hermit and sometimes it feels like my house is a prison since I am stuck spending so much time inside of it. Real estate was something that I wanted to get into when I was younger. Therefore, this year I am going to take the 60 hours’ worth of courses and give it a go taking the exam to become licensed.
I know it’s going to be tough. However, I was doing online classes for my Bachelors in Criminal Justice with two very young children and beginning a new online business, so I don’t think it is going to be as tough as that.
You’ll be seeing me posting more about this journey over the next couple of months though because I’m sure I’m going to need some motivation and encouragement from time to time as I have heard that the course is super hard.
#4 Smart Lipo
Over the years, I have toyed around with the idea of different surgeries that I thought would be beneficial to me. Now the latest thing I have my eye on is Smart Lipo. It’s a simple procedure and since I am actively into a fitness routine again I feel as though it could help me reach the results that I want sooner since my main problem area is my thighs. This will probably be the most expensive investment I make in myself this year, but after doing a ton of research I think it will be worth it.
Final Thoughts on Making Time to Find Me This Year
I know these are only four things. However, these are all things that aren’t one-off and can be done throughout the year. I do have other things that I want to do for “myself”, but these are the four that I am actively working on making a reality.
Wish me luck!
What are you doing for yourself this year? Have you tried any of the things from my list?
