Do you ever find yourself so exhausted during the day and wishing you can take a nap only to find that when it’s time to shut down for the night that you can’t go to sleep?
I’ve been there more than a few times. My sleep patterns have gotten so bad that I literally have an alarm that goes off on my phone that tells me it’s time to go to bed.
Even though usually, I do listen to the alarm and shut down for the night to go to bed, I still don’t go to sleep. I’ll end up catching up on other stuff on my phone, watching television, or having a million thoughts running through my mind.
I know I can’t be alone, therefore, today I am sharing some of my best tips for falling to sleep faster that I have been trying out myself.
Use Sheets That Will Keep You Cool
Do you often find yourself waking up hours before its time for you to wake up after a trying time of going to sleep because you are just so darn hot?
During the spring, this is a huge issue for me – especially this year. Our weather has been jumping all around and instead of playing off and on with my AC I find its best to just leave it off at night because it’s just going to cool down. Logical thinking, right? In my case, this doesn’t always work. I’ll think it’s going to be cool, but by the time I lay down I’m hot and irritated so it makes going to sleep even that much more trying.
Recently, I learned about the Stratus Sheet Set and I need to switch out all my sheets to Slumber Cloud now.
When you lay down on these babies they always seem to feel cool. No more waking up in the middle of the night in a hot sweaty mess because they allow your skin to stay cool throughout the entire night. In fact, one night it dropped down to an unexpectedly low temperature and I was a little chilly because the sheets were just that cool.
The best thing about these sheets is you don’t have to fuss and fight when putting the fitted sheet on. It fits my queen-sized mattress and gives me some breathing room.
Switch the TV Off and Listen to Something That Promotes Sleep Instead
I have the horrible habit of living my tv running ALL night. Even when I’m ready to go to sleep, I’ll just put on a rerun of old shows and just let it play through the night.
This is mostly because I live on a busy street and cars are always driving by at all hours and since I live in a condo I can hear all of the activities of my neighbors as well such as car doors closing, them coming in and leaving, so it’s kind of a huge distraction.
Before I went through a phase where I would just play the radio through the night. This is cool during the after hours when they are playing mostly music. However, around 4 am they tend to start doing a ton of talking and that is just super annoying for me when I’m trying to squeeze in one more hour of sleep. Therefore, I switched back to television, but I am almost certain leaving that on all night plays a role in my frequent headaches.
Thankfully, I recently heard about a company called, Marpac. With their machine the Dohm DS I can have white noise going throughout the night so it drowns out other background noise without the need to have the light from the tv shining all night or the distractions that come along with having the radio playing all night.
Are you looking to take sleep more seriously? @SeriousSleep can help! The #Marpac Dohm DS is a great device that the entire family can benefit from. Keep an eye out for them in an upcoming post on #Giveaways4Mom! #serioussleep

The best part is this machine is also great for young kids and they even have a baby specific model so it is ideal for ensuring that the entire family gets a good quality of sleep each night.
Use a Sleep Aid
Now we all know that there are so many sleep aids on the market these days. I’ll go ahead and admit that I have spent a good chunk of change purchasing items ranging from Melatonin to sleep tablets to help myself go to sleep. While the majority of the products that I purchased did help me go to sleep faster after using them for a while I noticed that my body would become immune to them. Therefore, I decided that orally ingested sleep aids are okay but not for continued use and I needed to find something that could be used in-between taking them.
I learned about Turbo Sleep, which happens to be the world’s first calming nasal spray that helps you relax and go to sleep quicker. It’s easier to take than pills and you don’t have to worry about experiencing side effects that come with over the counter sleep medications. The best part is that it works for anxiety too so you can use a couple of sprays during the day without worrying about putting yourself at risk for going to sleep. However, when it is time for bedtime, it is suggested that you use 4-6 sprays (I personally use about 8 sprays) to go to sleep throughout the night.
Sleep in Silk
You probably have heard me talking about silk pillowcases before because I like to sleep on them to make sure my hair doesn’t become damaged if I forget to cover it or my scarf or bonnet comes off. However, I also recently found out that sleeping in silk pajamas can aid in sleep quality as well. According to this article, silk pajamas can aid in keeping your cool at night because they “turn down the heat”.
If you don’t have any silk pajamas, don’t worry I have your back. Cloroom has 100% silk sleepwear available. If you use the code HELLOGIRL, you can get 15% off your first order too!
Use Essential Oils
If you are on the essential oil train or are considering giving them a go, they also come with the benefit of helping you sleep. My favorite way to utilize them is to put some lavender oil in a diffuser a few hours before I plan to go to bed or put the kids to bed to help promote sleep.
One of my favorite companies to get essential oils from is Simply Earth. They are a subscription box service that ships out oils and recipes each month to help you get more familiar with essential oils overall. For a limited time, you can sign up and use the code freediffuser to receive a free diffuser with your first subscription box.
Eat Some Chocolate
Hear me out before you conclude that I have lost my mind.
I know, everyone says no eating before bed. However, Wei of Chocolate is guaranteed to make you change your mind.
Their chocolate only has 30 calories per piece and the ingredients used are blended together to promote sleep. The concept originated when a doctor needed something to promote sleep so you can be sure that this is chocolate that is doctor improved since it was created for a doctor.
