Adding a new edition to your family is such an amazing time. However, I totally understand that after you’re already a mom with one or more other children, having a baby shower just isn’t something that you want to do.
When I had my last son, I had a gender reveal party. It was much more fun than a shower, didn’t make the guests feel as though they were obligated to bring presents, and it was a great way to find out what the gender of my growing baby would be.
Therefore, with summer being the prime time for weddings and babies, I figured today I would share some cute ways to announce the gender of your baby for all of you expecting mommas out there.
Gender Reveal Cake
A gender reveal cake is one of my favorite ways to announce a baby’s gender. In fact, I had one for my gender reveal party and it was a huge hit (that’s my cake in the photo).
To do this idea all you must do is ask your ultrasound person not to share the babies gender with you and instead write it down in a sealed envelope. Once you have the envelope, drop it off to your favorite bakery and ask them to make the inside of the cake the color for the gender written on the note.
Once it’s time for cake during the gender reveal party, everyone will be shocked at the same time when they see an either pink or blue inside.
To make it a little extra more fun than mine was lol you can even add a poll in your gender reveal party invitations that allow guests to make a guess before the cake cutting time and those who guessed right can get a prize.
If you need recommendations on where to get great gender reveal party invitations I would suggest checking out Basic Invite.
I recommend them because they have almost unlimited colors, custom samples, more than 40 different envelope colors, and provide a free address collection service.
If this isn’t your first pregnancy, you may want to allow the other kids to participate in revealing the gender. This can be done by purchasing a baby themed piñata and having your host, who has the envelope with your baby’s gender, fill it with blue or pink candy, prizes, or whatever it is you desire.
You can go with a pull string piñata if you have small kids or one that will require a bat if your kids are a little older. The adults can join in too if they like!
Once the piñata bursts, everyone will be surprised with either blue or pink, or possibly both if you’re lucky enough to be having multiples.
Make sure that before the party ends you have all of the guests updated contact information so once your bundle of joy arrives you will be able to send out baby boy birth announcements or baby girl birth announcements to them since they did share in the joy of finding out the gender with you.
Basic Invite is a great resource for that as well because they allow you to make birth announcements including gender neutral birth announcements. Furthermore, with their custom samples option, you can order a printed sample of your actual announcement so you can see exactly how it will print as well as the paper quality before its time for you to reveal your bundle of joy to all your friends and family.
Personalized Fortune Cookies
Who doesn’t like opening fortune cookies?
If the dad will also be attending the gender reveal party this is a lovely suggestion. The gender reveal party host, who has the envelope with the baby’s gender, can order giant confetti fortune cookies that when opened reveal the gender of the baby. The future mother and father would be the first to know while the rest of the guests are sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for the big news.
