If you’re like me with multiple sons, it’s probably necessary to make sure that your boys have their own bathroom. I mean, they’re boys – so enough said! Just like having daughters, boys want their bathrooms to match their personality and needs too. And when doing so it doesn’t have to be difficult.
You have lots of options on the table, including night lights, paint, or some illuminated mirrors. These are some of the ways in which you can create the bathroom your son is going to fall in love with and I’m sharing some ways with you today.
Install an Illuminated Mirror
A vanity mirror is one thing, but take things one step further with an illuminated mirror. There are so many illuminated mirror options on the market today. You can find ones with simple lights on them. There are also illuminated mirrors with cool colors on them.
For example, if your son is going through his sci-fi phase you might want a mirror with an alien green light. If you want to find something even more technologically advanced, you can also purchase mirrors that illuminate with a swipe of the hand.
How cool is that?
Install a Toilet Night Light
To avoid any accidents if your son needs to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, consider installing a toilet night light.
A toilet night light goes just above or next to the toilet so your son doesn’t have to go to the bathroom blind. It’s also a great way to use less energy as your kid won’t have to switch on the main light.
Hang Up Hygiene Reminders
A hygiene reminder is a simple sign. It may detail something like always wiping before flushing (in the case of young children) and always washing hands with soap after using the bathroom. Your child will never have an excuse for not washing their hands again.
These hygiene reminders can be as subtle or as blatant as you like. You know what your son needs best!
Put Up Bathroom Rules
An alternative to hygiene reminders is a set of bathroom rules. This can be better for smaller bathrooms as the rules are on a single sign and you only need a small amount of wall space. But they accomplish the same goal as the hygiene reminders detailed above.
Add a Step Stool
For families with toddlers and elementary school kids, a step stool is vital. You may think that you can simply make a bathroom suited for children this size, but this is extremely costly because you will have to remodel the whole bathroom within a year or two.
The best option is to add a step stool. I recommend that you opt for a plastic step stool as stray splashes can easily damage wooden step stools.
Install a Toothbrush Holder and Toothpaste Dispenser
To maintain high levels of hygiene and make things easier for your son, install a toothbrush holder and toothpaste dispenser. The toothbrush holder keeps everything in its place, but the toothpaste dispenser is simply there to make your life easier.
If you place a tube of toothpaste in the bathroom with a young boy, you already know that the chances of a big mess are extremely high. A toothpaste dispenser is an ideal alternative because it dispenses a small squeeze of toothpaste at the press of a button.
Add in Some Cute Hand Towels
Hand towels are a necessity for every bathroom. But don’t just give them some hand towels from your own bathroom. Allow them to make the space their own. It could involve putting a cartoon character on the hand towels or simply getting them in their favorite color.
Additionally, try to have these cute hand towels fit in with the color of the walls.
Choose a Favorite Character for the Décor
There’s nothing more important to a child than making their space reflect their interests. Thankfully, there are bathroom sets with all sorts of characters. Look at what your child loves the most and think about how you can incorporate that into the bathroom.
You can create a theme out of practically everything in the bathroom, including the floor mat, the shower curtain, and the soap dish. For example, if your child loves Batman you should look for a Batman bathroom set. Most well-known characters are covered these days.
And the best thing is it’s extremely affordable to do this.
Plug in a Cool Night Light
A cool night light is essential to the bathroom for two reasons. The first reason is that it saves energy because the main light doesn’t have to be switched on all the time and the second reason is the cool factor.
A night light can do anything, including change color, create logos on the wall, or come with a cool cover. You have lots of choices when it comes to night lights these days. A quick look online will give you hundreds of options to choose from.
Remember that a night light is a finishing touch that really takes a boy’s bathroom to the next level.
Last Word – What Really Makes a Great Bathroom for Kids?
The key to creating a bathroom your son is going to love is to involve them in the process. Ask them what they want to see in their bathroom and what they don’t want to see. You don’t want them to feel like you’re imposing your own ideas on them. Even if you don’t accept every idea, it’s important to show that you’re listening to them.
