This weekend we decided to take the boys to Kings Dominion to experience The Great Pumpkin Fest. We had a blast for a few hours and today I wanted to share a recap of what we experienced in case you are thinking of taking your children before the event ends.
What is The Great Pumpkin Fest at Kings Dominion?
The Great Pumpkin Fest is an event hosted by Kings Dominion on select weekends up until October 29th. It is set in Planet Snoopy and they have a ton of fall/Halloween themed activities planned for the kids. To participate, children have to be under 60” so it is more suitable for younger children.
Now let’s jump right into some of the fun things my family and I were able to experience on Sunday.
Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted at the opening to Planet Snoopy with a map that shares all the activities that are spread throughout Planet Snoopy. Plus, they give each child little Halloween themed bags to collect treats that are available throughout the area.
Right after the entrance, you can’t help but run into Barnyard Pals, which is where you are able to meet all of Woodstock’s barnyard pals ranging from donkeys to chickens to pigs. It was fun going through this area and mingling with all the animals and reading about them too.

My personal favorite was the alpaca. What a beautiful and unique animal. It almost makes me want to move out to the country and get some stables so I can own some myself.
Additionally, they have $1 cups of feed available so we purchased a couple so we could feed a few of the animals.

As you probably already guessed this was something that we all enjoyed.
Van Pelt Derby
Beside Barnyard Pals you will find Van Pelt Derby. Here the kids could join Linus on the farm and pedal around. They all had fun doing that for a bit before we headed off to see what else was next.

Character Meet & Treats
The boys love Snoopy, so of course, they had to go over and take photos and give him a big hug.
Peanuts Jump and Jive
While walking to the next destination on the map, the boys heard music playing so we skipped over there to check it out. It was a dance party going on and they went and busted out some moves for about three songs.
Franklins Scarecrow Hollow
The Scarecrow Hollow is a cute little maze that they have set up that the boys raced through in record time.
Pigpens People Washer
This was a place full of foam. The boys had fun playing around in the bubbles for a bit before we moved on to other things.

Additional Things Available at The Great Pumpkin Fest at Kings Dominion
After the Pigpens People Washer, the boys were itching to ride on some rides especially the Boo Blaster. We had wanted to do pumpkin painting but after waiting in that line The Great Pumpkin Fest was over (it’s only open from Noon-5). But they do have some other amazing things to check out such as:
- The Great Pumpkin Movie
- Scarecrow Theater
- Ghostly Games
- Sally’s Pumpkin Patch
Final Thoughts on The Great Pumpkin Fest at Kings Dominion
Overall, we had a blast.
However, traffic was very heavy on the way up, which meant it took us a little over 2 hours to get there and we didn’t make it through the gates until 2ish. We left once it started getting dark since that’s when adult Halloween activities start and we didn’t think it would be a good idea for the kids to experience that at their age. However, they do have NO BOO lanyards for sale for $10 each so you don’t have to worry about your little ones being BOOed if you decide to stay in the park after dark.
What do you think your family would like most about The Great Pumpkin Fest at Kings Dominion?
