Spring and summer is getting closer, even though the weather right now is not showing it. That means swimsuit and dress season is about to be in. However, if you are like me (up a few pounds), you are not ready, which means it is time to get serious about working out to get your body ready for summer.
As an entrepreneur and a mom of three boys, time easily slips away from me. Therefore, I have to get creative to make sure that I am working out every day so I can shed these extra pounds I have put on over the winter months. So, today I am sharing some of my five-minute workouts that can easily fit into the busiest schedules.
Each morning I begin my day with doing squats. I do them while I do my dental routine, which lasts about 5 minutes. I squat while brushing my teeth, while flossing, while oil pulling, and when using mouthwash. I vary the type of squats that I do so it doesn’t become old to me and I can make sure that I am working a variety of muscles in my lower body.
I mean, what do you do while doing your dental routine, just stare in the mirror and watch yourself do it? That time could be much more productive and help you get a good start to your day.
Thanks to my latest exercise gadget, while my oldest does his homework I am able to get down and do some sit-ups while still being able to monitor homework time and answer any questions that he may have. It does take longer than five minutes for him to do is homework, but I set a timer to go off after five minutes so I can then proceed to starting dinner.
Wall Push Ups
Now that my kids are a little older, they are capable of washing themselves, which means all I have to do is monitor bath time to make sure that they stay on task. Therefore, while they are in the shower I set myself up on the wall and do wall pushups to work my upper body. These can be just as effective as normal pushups if you are using the right form.
Now before you think I’m crazy with this one hear me out. Recently, I was introduced to Skipfit, which is a new twist on a classic game. By using this cool gadget, you can burn up to 200 calories in as little as 15 minutes.
When I first heard about it, I thought that this was going to be a piece of cake to do, but boy was I wrong. It’s not like the skip thingy I remember from when I was a kid at all. It doesn’t adjust tightly to your leg and you just swing it around and jump over it. NO! You have to keep the Skipfit up around your ankle, swing it, and jump over it.
I use this to help me take breaks from the computer throughout the day. I set my timer to five minutes and I do five minutes of skipping per leg once an hour, throughout the day. Who knew something so little cool give you such a deep workout. Maybe I’m just out of shape or something, but the first day I tried this out, I was so out of breath and sweating before the timer was close to going off (Maybe I should add that I keep my heat on 80 so all of that moving around and the heat is probably what caused me to sweat so quickly). I had to push myself to make it through the five minutes, but it was worth it.
