I must admit that Fall is one of my favorite seasons. The weather is perfect and of course, that means Halloween is near, which is my favorite holiday. I also love the different fall smells and the hint of weather that lets me know boot season is almost in. To help really set the fall mood in place we like to do a little bit of decorating.
This weekend we got a head start on fall décor and today I thought it was no better time than to share with you how to get your home fall ready.
Step 1: Put a Budget in Place
The first thing you want to do is put a budget in place. If you’re anything like me, you can go into a store and shop until you drop.
Therefore, before leaving home, or going online, make sure you put a budget in place. For me, my budget was $100 and I ended up spending $107 for fall décor for three places in my home, so I don’t think I did too bad.
Step 2: Head to AtHome Store
AtHome stores across the US have a great selection of Fall season décor at some of the best prices. They have indoor and outdoor décor available, which makes them your one stop shop to decorate your entire house. Regardless of whether you just want to refresh small spaces throughout your entire home like me or makeover an entire room, AtHome store has your back.
The best part is since I last shopped at AtHome, they opened up a new store in Hampton, which is a lot closer than making the trip all the way out to Chesapeake.
Step 3: Analyze All the Fall Decorations
As you can see from my photos below, AtHome has a ton of fall decorations. They have various pumpkin themes, Halloween décor, and even Thanksgiving décor waiting for your home.
At first, we were going to shop for Halloween stuff because we found rows of cute décor. However, after moving to a different section of the store I decided to go with the general fall theme.
At one point, I was just going to get it all. Then, I remember my budget and realized I would have to go with one or the other.
Therefore, before putting anything in your cart and getting your mind set on something specific it is important to analyze the entire store to make sure that you see all the options available to you.
Step 4: Picture the Different Items in Your Home
As I mentioned earlier, I was torn between going with the witch theme for Halloween or general fall décor. What made me go with the fall theme was I could picture how the different items that caught my eye would look in my home. Also, there’s the fact that the fall theme could stay up longer than the Halloween themed décor that I was considering.
I’ll go ahead and be honest though, I’ve already made up my mind to go back next month and get the Halloween décor though.
This is another important step. Before purchasing anything imagine how it will look in your home to ensure that when you get home you will still be 100% satisfied with your purchase.
Step 5: Decide Which Locations You Want to Decorate
While picturing how the décor will look at your home also picture the specific locations it could work.
While I was picking up things putting them in the cart I was thinking things such as, “This would look great outside. Is this okay to put outside?”
This made things easier to set up once home also because I already knew where everything was going to be placed.
Step 6: Review All the Items in Your Cart Before Checking Out
This step goes back to your budget.
When I was putting things in the cart I was kind of looking at their prices but I wasn’t really keeping an overall count. Therefore, before going to the checkout areas I added things up – mostly to see if I could squeeze in a couple of more items while walking up to the checkout line – and it turned out I had a couple of dollars to spare. When back at the front of the store, I noticed some kitchen mats and even though it put me a tiny bit about $100 I was able to get that one last final addition.
Step 7: Go Home and Clean the Areas Where You Will Decorate
Once back home, it’s time to do a little cleaning so you can prepare to decorate. Since I chose to decorate in the kitchen, outside the entrance, and in the dining room cleaning wasn’t too bad. I had the boys clean the kitchen chairs and table while I cleaned the kitchen and their dad cleaned the outdoor entrance way.
After the cleaning is done the fun part can start and you’ve knocked out two tasks at once.
Step 8: Install Your New Fall Items
Installing the new fall items is the fun part. We could see our shopping haul in action and as you can see from the photos above it made a big difference in changing the mood even with just a few items.
Step 9: Wait for the Compliments
After everything is done, sit back, and wait for compliments from your neighbors.
A few hours after we had the outside done one of my neighbors came home and she had to come tell me just how much she loved everything and now had the encouragement to do some decorating herself. It’s amazing how something so simple can brighten up someone’s day.
Final Thoughts on Getting Your Home Ready for Fall
Overall, preparing your home for fall doesn’t have to take a ton of time nor money. Regardless of what your budget is you can be confident knowing that you can go to AtHome and find the perfect décor to get everyone in the mood for fall.
How will you be decorating your home this fall?
