In 2017 one of my goals was to make more time for “me”. I had a couple of new things that I wanted to try, and one happened to be kickboxing. In fact, I signed up for another 7 months, which means this is something that I will have done for a year come June and it’s something that I really enjoy. With the 45 Day Transformation kicking off again in a couple of days, I figured now is the perfect time to share my five reasons for recommending that everyone tries kickboxing this year.

Whether you’re looking to lose weight, meet some new people, engage with others in a positive environment, or just become more fit, meeting any of those goals becomes more achievable when it’s fun. When doing your first class it may not seem fun, but when your “second wind” kicks in and you reflect on the experience you will realize just how much fun it was. Plus, the more you go, and the more experienced you become, the funnier the experience becomes. AND the best part is, it never gets old!
It’s a Fast-Paced Workout
If you’ve been reading my blog for a few years, you know that I have tried a slew of different exercise programs. From joining Planet Fitness to going to Zumba on Thursdays to signing up for Daily Burn, and even purchasing tons of exercise equipment and DVDs such as The Brazilian Butt Lift. However, all those things not only became old within a couple of months, but they also were so slow paced that it felt like another chore after the first couple of weeks of being in the routine.
The one thing I can tell you about kickboxing is it never slows down. The class is an hour, but you wouldn’t be able to tell it. You’re constantly moving from the time class starts until the time it ends. Whether you’re doing burpees, Russian Twists, or round houses on the bag, you’ll barely have time to catch your breath, much less think about the time.
It’s a Great Stress Reliever
One thing about working full time from home juggling multiple things each day and being a mom of three boys is that I am filled with a lot of stress. It feels good to be able to go to class and sweat off some calories and of course punch the bag. With every punch, kick, and roundhouse I’m able to throw all my stress, anger, and negativity out of my system. Each time I leave class I feel like I have a fresh start.
The entire time you’re in class you’ll be too busy working out to even think about what is causing you stress and when you leave class you’ll have a fresh outlook and be a lot calmer. Plus, when your “second wind” kicks in you’ll be able to crush whatever that stress demon was you went in with on your shoulders like a boss.
It Pushes You to Your Limits
When I first told people I was doing kickboxing, I received a lot of responses – mostly negative. I’d invite friends to go with me and they’d either say they weren’t in shape enough, it requires too much moving, or it couldn’t fit into their schedules, with the most common thing being that they aren’t in shape enough.
Let me tell you, when I went to my first class, I wasn’t in shape either unless you consider occasionally doing a work out DVD or jumping on the treadmill for twenty minutes in shape. The thing is there is no such thing as being in too good of shape for kickboxing or not in shape enough for kickboxing.
The first week the class will be a struggle if you’ve never or hardly ever exercise. However, after that, it’ll get easier and you’ll find that it always pushes you to your limits since no two classes are the same.
It Complements Other Things That You Do
Already working out or considering getting Laser Lipo or the Bellesoma Method? The good think about kickboxing is that it compliments other things that you do. I’m going to lie Laser Lipo or Cool sculpting is something that I want to do soon. However, just because I do one of these things it doesn’t mean I’m throwing my boxing gloves in the corner. Kickboxing is a way to complement these procedures. It will help you tighten your skin up quicker, retain your results, and keep you from having to get so much additional work done.
Final Thoughts on Kickboxing This Year
As you can probably see I am a huge kickboxing addict. I want others to be able to experience the benefits that I have been getting for the past couple of months as well. Kickboxing comes with so many benefits both physically and mentally. It’s something that you should give a try at least once this year.
Will 2018 be the year that you try kickboxing? If not, what’s holding you back?
