5 Ways to Decorate and Organize Space in your Small Room

Now that I have a smaller bedroom, I needed to do a bit of organizing to make it look and feel more spacious. I recently took a trip to my local At Home store to find new bedding and storage options to brighten and organize my bedroom. Here are my 5 tips for decorating and organizing small bedroom spaces to make them more functional for you.

Multi-Use Storage

My closet is a mess, so I had to figure out a way to make it more organized and neat. Storage cubes with one open side work great in my small space. I am able to stack a couple of cubes along the floor of the closet to store shoes, t-shirts, and non-folded items.

Use Light Colors

The last thing you want is for your bedroom to be too dark. Use light colors for your décor if you rent and do not have the option of painting the walls. I chose a light yellow and gray colored theme as it is relaxing, bright and the pattern reminds me of nature. Bright colors open up large spaces.

Tip: Place a mirror on the opposite side of the room from the window so that light bounces off of the mirror and makes the room appear bigger.

Pack Away Out-of-Season Clothes

My children and I all have wardrobes for every season. I realized that I still had winter clothes in my closet. They have been packed away and put into the storage closet so that I have room for summer items and room to move around some.

Lighting

Ample lighting, even in the bedroom, is important. If you do not have a ceiling mounted light, consider floor lamps. When choosing the light bulbs, select LED options. LED light bulbs emit a whiter, brighter and more natural light. The bulbs also last 20 to 25 years and are energy efficient. A properly lit room helps it look bigger.

Create a Project Checklist

Whether you are packing for a move or simply organizing your space, use a project checklist. The checklist helps keep you organized and within your time schedule. Choose one part of your checklist to work on at a time and finish that task before moving onto another to prevent disorganization.

I already know this is going to be my favorite section of @athomestores. I am obsessed with bedding! #ad

Closing Thoughts on At Home Store

I enjoyed visiting the At Home store. It was nice to shop for myself. The store’s setup was easy to navigate. When I visited, there was a sale on bedding. Most of the options within the sale were twin sizes. Once I chose my bedding set and browsed around a bit, I checked out for a total of $47 (originally $49, but they gave a little bit off for my friend being military). One thing that did bother me a little was that some items did not have prices on them. I would shop my local At Home store again and do think that this is a good solution for parents of upcoming college students. There are a lot of options for small spaces and with trending designs that appeal to college age students.

One thing that did bother me was that some items did not have prices on them. Then, once home, once I put the bedding on my bed, I did think it was lacking in the quality a little for the price. Overall, the store is pricey, but if you can find something in the deal section available then it could be a good deal for parents and college students. There are a lot of options for small spaces and they have trending designs that appeal to college age students.

Have you ever visited an At Home Store? If so, what were your thoughts?
