Roast marshmallows over the firepit
Adding a firepit to our deck has been one of the best things we have done.
It can be used year-round, but it’s especially useful during the fall.
Our boys love roasting marshmallows over the firepit AND they even request that we do it once a week.
While roasting marshmallows we catch up about what’s been going on with school, random things that are on their mind, share laughs, and more.
The best part is adding a firepit to your backyard doesn’t have to be expensive either.
I’ve compiled a list of the Best Firepits Under $250 that should be useful during your firepit search.
When it comes to purchasing firepits Sunnydaze Decor is one of the first brands that comes to mind.
This is because they have such a wide selection of firepits available that makes it easy to fit purchasing a firepit into most budgets. Plus, in addition to their firepit options, you can also find affordable log racks too!
For example, you can get the Sunnydaze 30” Cosmic Cooking Fire Pit with Grill Grate & Spark Screen for less than $150. Shipping is free AND it’ll be at your doorstep in less than 1 week.
You can also save an additional 10% on any of their firepits by clicking this link and using the Sunnydaze Decor coupon code FIREPIT2020 (valid until 9/30/22).
Do a fall backyard photoshoot
Do your kids love getting in front of the camera?
If so, you’ll want to make sure you add doing a fall backyard photoshoot to your list of fall backyard activities.
You could make an annual tradition out of it and they’re bound to come out great due to the amazing color complements from nature (aka leaves).
Understandably professional family photos can be expensive and if you go into a studio they can come out looking overly staged.
Don’t chance it and do your own while ensuring they capture the memory perfectly since everyone is comfortable in their own environment and having fun.
Put up Halloween decorations
Do you celebrate Halloween?
If so, consider starting a fall tradition of decorating the backyard (and front) for Halloween.
Each year you could add in some new Halloween decorations and it’ll definitely be something that your kids will look forward to doing together with you each year.
Plus, circling back to the prior suggestion, Halloween decorations will be the perfect theme for your fall backyard family photoshoot.

Catchup over some hot chocolate
As the weather cools down, one thing kids will always look forward to enjoying is hot chocolate.
You could give out Oreo Hot Chocolate while roasting marshmallows on the firepit.
Or you could make “Hot Chocolate Talk” a part of your weekly routine. It’ll allow you to take a moment to unplug, unwind, and just catch up with everyone.
Not a big fan of hot chocolate? No problem! Adults could opt to go for tea instead.
Steep Echo is a great tea brand to consider checking out. Their Taste of Home Box is a great option as it contains three seasonal teas and tea recipe cards that include fan favorites such as Hush Hot Toddy.
While the kids are enjoying their sweet treat, you can enjoy unique tea that will provide you with the ultimate relaxation experience while naturally boosting your immunity with every sip.
Play laser tag
If you have trees and other hiding spots in your backyard laser tag is one of the fall backyard activities that your kids will love and it’ll get them moving too.
You can purchase a kit online and it’ll be one of the best investments that you make.
My boys got their first laser tag kit years back and it is still an activity that they do together on close to a weekly basis.
After playing a few rounds the kids will have burnt off any excess energy and then you can enjoy some me time once they are in bed sleeping soundly.

Stargaze
Grab some blankets, a telescope, and some snacks and spend an hour, or so, stargazing.
This is one of the simple fall backyard activities that will encourage conversations and is overly relaxing for all.
Who knows you might even be able to see a shooting star!
Have an outdoor movie night
Thanks to the cooler evening temperatures, fall is the perfect time to have an outdoor movie night without hearing complaints about mosquitos and it being too hot.
Make some popcorn, grab an outdoor movie projector, and make a pile of pillows and blankets and you’re all set.
These are the fall backyard activities that your kids will love
Don’t let everyone just be stuck inside on electronics this fall. Instead, do a few (or all) of these fall backyard activities and you’ll be able to make sure everyone gets some downtime and create some wonderful memories together.
