Preparing your home for house guests doesn’t have to be hard, regardless of how “boujee” your guests are.
You don’t need a checklist for house guests or anything like that, just do what you’d normally do and make sure you don’t forget the tips that I’m sharing below.
Make sure you have enough linens
The first thing you want to do is make sure you have enough linens – especially if you don’t host house guests a lot.
Guests aren’t going to be bringing their own towels, washcloths, blankets, etc. Therefore, it’s important to make sure you have enough available for everyone to use.
The last thing you want is to have your house guests put off freshening up after a long trip because all of your towels are in the wash or you have to run out and purchase some.
Stock up the guest bathroom
If you’re like me, you probably hardly ever go into the guest bathroom. This is fine, however, it’s important to make sure that it’s fully stocked before your guests arrive.
For additional tips check out my guide for creating a guest bathroom that guests will feel comfortable in.
Make sure you have lots of hand soap, hand sanitizer, hand towels, air freshener, and toilet paper stocked in there.

Check your laundry room
Even if your house guests are only staying for a night or two it’s important to make sure that the laundry room is also stocked up with supplies and that both the washer and dryer are available for their use.
One drink too many could result in a spilled glass of wine, which requires immediate attention to avoid a stain.
Make sure your laundry room is ready for whatever accidents may occur by having the proper laundry essentials on hand already.
Deep clean appliances
Understandably, appliances aren’t cleaned weekly, but when guests are coming over you want to make sure that you remember to give them a good clean.
Items such as the coffee maker, fridge, freezer, etc, should be cleaned before guests arrive to give off a tidy appearance.
Obviously, the house guests coming to your home are within your inner circle and are people you know, but trust me, they are quietly judging how clean your home is and appliances tend to be the things that are forgotten during house guests’ clean-up prep.
Have an assortment of beverages available

Don’t leave your house guests with only water as their beverage choice.
Instead, add in an assortment of beverages so everyone is sure to find something that they enjoy.
If you have wine drinkers that will be staying consider California Wine Club. I recommend them because it allows wine drinkers to experience new wines while also providing them with an experience that they will remember.
If you’re hosting guests that don’t drink, you could always go with an alternative such as HOP WTR – you can find a recent review here. There is a whole range of hop-infused sparkling waters to choose from!
These tips will help get your home ready for house guests
There are other things to do to prepare your home for house guests, however, these tips are often forgotten.
The most important thing to remember is to not stress yourself out about preparing to host and look forward to creating memories with your loved ones.

These are great tips for getting your home ready for when guests or family stay with you. Since we are about to have our first baby, Darcee’s parents are coming for 3 MONTHS!!! EEK! Now luckily they are staying in a short term rental a few minutes away. But I am still going stock up on toiletries, more drink options, and even extra linens (if I can fit them around the millions of diapers!)
These are great tips, I’ll definitely keep these in mind for later. Thanks for sharing!
