Don’t want to have a huge gathering this 4th of July but still want to have a good meal together as a family? I’ve got you covered! While we do host a ton of events in the summer between holidays and birthdays sometimes I just want to do something just for us so I don’t have to do a bunch of planning, shopping, and cleaning. I know I can’t be the only one, therefore, today I am sharing with you a simple 4th of July family meal just in case you’re wanting to do something more relaxed for 4th of July this year.

M&M Pie Recipe
Ingredients:
- Flour
- Brown Sugar
- Red, White & Blue M&Ms
- Butter
- Vanilla
- White baking chips (optional)
- 1 egg
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350. Grease pie pan with butter or canola oil. Add 8 tablespoons (1 stick) of butter and 1 cup of brown sugar to mixing bowl. Mix together either manually or with an electric mixer. (Tip: If you like you can soften the butter a bit to make this process easier. I put it in the microwave for 20 seconds to soften it a bit.) Once mixed together evenly add in ½ tsp of vanilla, 1 egg, 1 ½ cups of flour, and mix until a creamy dough forms.
Mix in your M&Ms and baking chips. (Note: You can use as little or as many as you like. However, I saved some to add to the top.)
Place dough evenly in your pie pan. Add extra M&Ms on top.
Cook in the oven for 30 minutes or until the edges brown.

Adding in Local Goodness From Food Lion to Your Simple 4th of July Family Meal
To pair with the food for the adults we added in a local wine from Virginia – Red Mountain Laurel. When in Food Lion shopping for the ingredients I noticed the “Local Goodness” banner on the wine aisle and since I hadn’t tasted a local wine since the Food and Wine Festival at Busch Gardens I decided to give it a try. Speaking of Local Goodness did you know that in addition to Food Lion being a trusted neighbor in the community where you can get fresh and affordable food to keep your families nourished that they have hundreds of items in the store that come from local growers, manufacturers, and have been harvested in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia?
I don’t know about you but I love supporting local small businesses, so this was a great thing for me to learn. Plus, this year makes year 60 of Food Lion continuing their partnership with local suppliers.
How awesome is that?
