Simple, Cute Gender Reveal Ideas

When I had my last son the popularity of having a gender reveal was just starting to take off. For the most part, gender reveal ideas were limited to different food or balloon options. Now over the years so many more options have been introduced.

With this pregnancy when I was deciding how I wanted to do the reveal, I was overwhelmed with ideas.

For my pregnancy announcement I ended up doing scratch tickets and for the gender reveal I ended up going with confetti cannons.

Today, I wanted to share with you some simple, cute gender reveal ideas in case you’re also finding it overwhelming to decide on how you want to reveal your baby’s gender.

Gender reveal cake

A gender reveal cake is one of the most simple and cutest ways to reveal the gender of your baby.  In fact, I had one for my first gender reveal party and it was a huge hit (that’s my cake in the photo).

To do this idea all you must do is ask your ultrasound person not to share the baby’s gender with you and instead write it down in a sealed envelope. Once you have the envelope, drop it off at your favorite bakery and ask them to make the inside of the cake the color for the gender written on the note.

Once it’s time for cake during the gender reveal party, everyone will be shocked at the same time when they see either pink or blue inside.

To make it a little extra fun you can even add a poll in your gender reveal party invitations that allow guests to make a guess before the cake cutting time and those who guessed right can get a prize.

Gender reveal confetti cannon

Cannon gender reveals are becoming more common. However, if you want to keep things safe for everyone, I’d recommend going with a confetti cannon instead of explosives.

For this gender reveal we did the gender reveal confetti cannon, where we each had one and shot them off at the same time.

Planning wise I designated a friend as the ‘gender keeper’ and they went over to Party City and got the cannons and some gender reveal decorations.

Then, on the reveal day, we just grilled out, took some photos and videos, and revealed the gender. It was very simple and cute but didn’t cost a lot of money and was a very small gathering.

With the confetti cannons do plan to have to do clean up afterward. Thankfully, we did it outside because the confetti was EVERYWHERE!

The only thing that could have made the gender reveal a little better would have been to have thought about getting a canopy or inflatable tent from instent.com since it was a little extra hot and sunny that day.

Piñata

If this isn’t your first pregnancy, you may want to allow the other kids to participate in revealing the gender. This can be done by purchasing a baby-themed piñata and having your ‘gender keeper’, fill it with blue or pink candy.

Pull string pinatas are probably the safest bet during pregnancy as you wouldn’t want to accidentally get hit in your belly.

Once the piñata bursts, everyone will be surprised with either blue or pink, or possibly both if you’re lucky enough to be having multiples.

Fortune cookies

Who doesn’t like opening fortune cookies?

Plus, with this gender reveal idea you’ll actually be giving guests an accurate prediction for the future.

Your ‘gender keeper’ can order personalized fortune cookies from Amazon and everyone can snap open their cookie at the same time for the big reveal.

Of course, the most important thing about pregnancy is to deliver a healthy baby. However, you can celebrate small milestones throughout your pregnancy to make it a little more fun with a gender reveal being one of those things.

I haven’t been to a gender reveal party but they look like a lot of fun. My favorite are the balloons wrapped inside a big box that is unopened and the balloons float out.
