If there’s one room in your home where you should be able to completely relax and feel ultimate bliss it’s your bedroom.
Understandably, when you have kids, it’s hard to find time for yourself to just be able to relax – especially during their younger years. However, as they get older making a few updates to your bedroom (they don’t have to be expensive updates either) can help you turn your bedroom into a couple’s haven that you and your partner look forward to unwinding in each night.
Here are some tips that I’ve personally used to turn my bedroom into a couple’s haven.
Get a new mattress
When was the last time that you updated your mattress? Do you find it hard to sleep through the night or is your current mattress lumpy?
If so, consider getting a new mattress. It is a bedroom investment that will almost immediately pay for itself thanks to the improved quality of sleep you’ll get.
Experts say that you should change your mattress every five to ten years so if you’re within that time frame (or longer) now is as good of a time as any to update your mattress.
The mattress I’m using currently is the Nectar mattress, which is a great fit for me AND before that, I had the Novosbed mattress which I also loved. Both of these recommendations are affordably priced and they ship directly to your door.

Get new bedding
I don’t know about you, but I am obsessed with bedding.
I have different comforters and pillows for every season. There’s nothing like getting into bed at night and having fresh sheets and a comforter waiting for you.
Plus, updating your bedding could be just what you need to refresh the look of your room and make it more relaxing for both you and your partner.
Your bedroom should be a no-kids zone
Unless you have infants or are still cosleeping, there’s really no need for the kids to be hanging out in your room. There are plenty of other common rooms for family quality time such as the living room or kitchen.
It’s also important to have boundaries such as no barging in the room without knocking or opening a closed door.
By making my bedroom a no-kids zone, it really makes the bedroom a couples haven because it’s the one place in the house we can go to escape and take a minute to unwind and not have to worry about constant chaos.
Keep your bedroom clutter-free and add in some fragrances
I get it, we’re all busy and constantly having to clean does take its toll on you.
However, the one place in the house that you don’t want to be messy and cluttered is your bedroom. It can make it difficult to be able to unwind and relax because you’re thinking about the basket of laundry that needs to be put away or the clutter on the dresser.
Consider investing in some organization bins that can keep your closet organized and consider ditching the entertainment system and getting a tv wall mount to free up some additional space in the bedroom.
Lastly, add in some fragrances that help you relax at night. This could be as simple as lighting a candle as part of your unwind routine or using an essential oil diffuser while you sleep.
Personally, my go-to is candles, however, lately, I’ve been giving Febreze Small Spaces a try and I must admit they work really well and the smell lasts for quite a while without taking up a ton of space.
Turn your bathroom into a couple’s haven too
Assuming that you have a master’s bathroom, don’t just let the bliss stop in your bedroom, spread it to your bathroom too.
You can add in a new shower curtain set that matches the color scheme of your new bedding.
You can even add in a new light fixture and while you’re at it throw in some new bath accessories such as loofas, bath bombs, etc.

Your bedroom should be a couples haven
Your bedroom should be a place where you can go to unwind and experience true bliss. If it’s not, I strongly encourage you to start making changes now.
You will have to spend a few hours finding the right items for you and your partner. But once you get everything together I can promise you that it’ll be worth it.
