As someone who has been running an online business for the past several years, I can tell you that you must get creative with the way you market your business. Many of the tactics that I used in 2011 no longer bring me the results that they once did. Then other tactics such as freelancing sites, social media, and other well know marketing strategies either require too much of a time commitment for little ROI or a large upfront cost (i.e. social media ads) to get a decent ROI. Therefore, I found that when marketing online businesses it’s best to think outside of the box and get creative with your strategies to get the results you want and to stand out from your competitors.
Today, I wanted to take a little bit of time to share with you 4 unique ways to get the word out about your business in case you’re looking to grow your business before the end of the year or are hoping to start an online business but are unsure how you’re going to get the word out about it.
Give Out Temporary Tattoos for Giving Occasions
How many times have you passed out Halloween goodies on Halloween or even goody bags at one of your kid’s birthday parties? Probably more than a handful of times already.
Majority of the none candy related stuff probably was lost by the kids, but you can be sure that their parents inspected everything before giving them the green light.
This Halloween or at the next kid birthday party you host why not give out temporary tattoos that not only have a cute theme on it but subtly promotes your business as well?
Kids love temporary tattoos and with a nice design, they’ll have others wanting to see it. Plus, their parent is going to inspect the tattoo first (or they should) and they’ll be introduced to your business or reminded of your business and could be your next client or refer you to your next client.
I recommend Sticker You when it comes to custom temporary tattoos because they have great designs, are FDA approved, allow you to upload your own artwork (this ensures it’s not overly promotional), and they use non-toxic materials.
Sponsor Local Up and Coming Talent
People who are up and coming do the most to promote themselves and get eyes on their business. For example, you’re reading this article right now because you want to know what you can do to get the word out about your business that will help you stand out from your competitors.
From kid’s football teams to local comedians there are numerous opportunities to sponsor up and coming talent in your local community and it won’t cost you as much as advertising on social media and getting a good ROI will or even advertising on a major website in your niche.
The best thing is since they are up and coming they are more than likely putting 110% into promoting and networking themselves. They are tapping into all their connections and determined to get the word out.
For example, when sponsoring a football team, you may get a link on their website, your logo on their helmet, or your business info on their flags. When sponsoring an up and coming comedian they may give you a shout out at their show, a link on their website, and even shout-outs on their personal and business social media pages.
You never know who’s in their network and what services they need.
If you want to sweeten the deal you could offer to also give them some of your customized products to give to some of their fans to help you reach an even larger audience.
For example, Sticker You has customized magnets available. Everyone has magnets on their fridge. Plus, we go into our fridges multiples times per day. You will stay at the top of anyone’s mind who has your businesses magnet on their fridge. Plus, when others come over it’s a chance your magnet will catch their eye too and they’ll inquire about your business.
Advertise Your Online Business on Your Clothing
Clothing is an awesome way to advertise and it can also be a great conversation starter. You can get a conversation starting shirt, such as “I’m Silently Correcting Your Grammar” and put an Iron-On from Sticker You on the back of it that promotes your business and it’s guaranteed to start some conversations.
I own the Grammar shirt myself and when I wore it I got a lot of feedback from it as well as my I Can’t Adult Today shirt.
I saw this shirt and I just couldn’t resist the urge to purchase it as it sums up my life perfectly. #freelancewriter #lifestyleblogger #iloveshopping #impulsebuy

Host a Giveaway
Giveaways are a great way to get the word out about your online business as well. You could give away your product or service to a few people or you could give away cash or a gift card to Amazon. Just keep in mind the better the prize is that you’re offering the more people the giveaway will reach, which means the more people who will find out about your online business.
