If you’re someone that likes entertaining during the summer months, the winter months make the perfect time to do some home improvements to prepare for summer.
Here are our top home improvements to make during winter to prepare for summer.
Landscaping
Winter is the perfect time to get a head start on your landscaping updates.
If you want to refresh your grass, keep in mind that you’ll want to get on top of this process before the first freeze though.
Other landscaping needs such as removing trees and deciding on designs can be done at any point during the winter months, though.
Interior painting
If you want to change your interior colors or if it’s just time for a new paint job in general winter is the best time to do this.
First, you’ll find that professional painters will charge less because they’ll have fewer clients and will be trying to remain competitive against their competition. Secondly, the paint will go on better since there is no moisture in the air.
Build a deck
Since you’re probably not spending much time outside due to the cold weather, winter makes the perfect time to have that new deck you’ve been putting off built.
Plus, you won’t have to worry about being on a time crunch since you won’t be putting it to use until the summer months.
Refresh your outdoor entertaining area
Winter is the perfect time to catch deals on outdoor entertaining furniture and appliances.
Typically, many consumers purchase summer-related things in the spring and early summer months, which causes the prices to increase due to the demand.
Therefore, wintertime is when you should be purchasing pools, accessories to add to your outdoor kitchen layouts, and outdoor furniture.
If you’ve been wanting to take your outdoor entertainment to the next level shop for the items in the wintertime to get the best deals.
Replace your windows
Your windows not only help keep your home secure, but they also help you keep your heating and cooling bills lower.
In the summertime window companies seem to be more in-demand so the wait is longer versus during the winter. Plus, since the windows are the gateway to the outside by installing them during the winter months you don’t have to deal with an abundance of flies, bees, and other pests entering your home during the installation process.

We definitely need to replace our windows. I wish they weren’t so expensive!
Monica,
I know right. When we purchased our home we knew the windows would need to be replaced ASAP. We had them redone in October, but the price tag is insane even with the discounts we got. Thankfully, they come with a lifetime warranty so we’ll never have to pay to have them fixed/replaced again.
This is such a good thing to do so that there is less scrambling when weather gets warmer! Thanks for sharing your tips.

Buidling a deck is something we’ve discussed a lot over here. I’d love to build a deck for the summer months.
Jenn,
That’s actually next on our to do list. Our current deck is falling apart (literally).
